Peter had a successful acting career from his first professional play in 1957 through to 1967 when he joined Blue Peter as a presenter.
His acting encompassed two full years in weekly repertory (The Renaissance Theatre Company, Her Majesty's Theatre, Barrow-in-Furness); Chorus work at The London Palladium; parts in most of the regular TV/film series of the mid-sixties (Z-Cars, Dixon, World of Wooster, Gideon's Way, Redcap, Court Martial, The Girl in the Black Bikini) and three major Plays - Luther (BBC 1); The Girl in the Picture (ABC Armchair Theatre), The Villains (Granada). For a year, he played Steven Taylor in 44 episodes of Doctor Who, with Bill Hartnell, the original article!
